Inner Voices

"You should not be so hard on the boy."
    "Grr…"
    "He’s right you know."
    "Grrrr….."
"It’s not like it’s going to kill you to be nice to him every once and a
while."
    "Grrrr…."
"And another thing. You don’t appreciate your friends."
    "GRRR…"
"Articulate more, son. We can not know what you are thinking if you do
not tell us."
"JUST SHUT UP! BOTH OF YOU!"
"That is better but you do not have to yell, son. We are right here."
    "You’re always right here."
"His point exactly. When are we ever going to get a chance out?"
    "But it’s my body!"
"You should be more fair. Maybe I would like to go take a walk or
something."
"But you can’t. It’s MY body."
"You could at least try, son."
"Would you stop calling me son!"
    "But I am your father."
    "No, you’re not!"
"Well, I guess he sort of is. If you look at it a certain way. But, techni
cally, he’s like, your uncle or something. In a way. Well, I guess he could
be your father. Or maybe he’s more like a mom. Heh, a mom… No, actually, he’s
you. Well, an older version of you. With different memories. And stuff."
    "We get the idea!"
    "So, he’s you."
0002000006280000068B622,    "Now I am."
    "You always were."
"No, I was my own person."
"No, you two were the same person in different bodies."
"No, we could not have been. Totally different personalities. And I am
much older then him."
    "You’re right about that."
    "I am not that old."
"Arg! Quit it! Why do you argue all the time?"
"We have nothing better to do. We are stuck in here."
    "It was your choice!"
"Well, it was a good idea at the time. I was half dead. Pain and all."
"What about you? Do you have anything to add to this?"
"It was the only choice at the time, son. I do not regret it."
"At least some people appreciate me."
"I appreciate you. But, I would appreciate you even more if you would at
least let me go for one little walk."
    "But I can’t!"
    "You could try."
"Stop it right there! We aren’t going into this again. Is that all you
guys can think of?"
"I think of a lot of other things. But, for some reason they always end
up back to that. I wonder why?"
    "I think of many things."
    "Like what?"
"Uh… I would tell you, but you would not understand them."
    "Try me."
    "Yeah!"
"Uh… Things like… um, what the universe is…No, why people do… and, um…
Who invented can cheese?"
"That’s it? That it?!?! You have all this free time and that’s the best
you can do?"
    "That’s pitiful!"
    "Could you do any better?"
    "Uh…"
"Of course! I do all the time and I’m not stuck somewhere!"
    "So tell us."
    "Well, um… things like…"
    "Has anyone seen you blush?"
    "What?"
000200000B6E00000CADB68,    "Has anyone ever…"
"I heard you the first time! But were did that come from?"
"Weell, I was thinking about your friend, the humans…"
    "And Saiyajin."
"…and Saiyajin. I was thinking about how they act. You asked us what we
think of and that’s one of them. Then I was thinking about their customs.
Then I was thinking about the time you actually went to one of their
Christmas things. Then I was thinking about the cookies Chi-Chi made then.
You know, they ones with the chocolate pieces? The ones everyone loved but
you didn’t touch? Those smelled wonderful. I wonder were she learned that
recipe. Maybe a book? I wonder if she bought it on some shopping spree. Oh,
well. And…I’m not really sure where that came from, really. Hum…"
    "*sigh*"
"I wonder what it feels like to have one of our antenna ripped off."
"I’m not even going to ask."
"Where did you think of that?"
"I told you not to ask!"
"Actually, you said you weren’t going to ask. Not him."
"Well, are you going to answer him?"
    "Answer what?"
    "About the antenna thing!"
    "Oh, that!"
    "…….."
    "…….."
    "…….."
    "Well?"
    "Well what?"
"Arg! Did something happen to your brain during the whole merging bit?"
"Do not talk that way to your brother, son."
    "He’s not my brother!"
    "And you’re not my father!"
    "In a sense, yes."
    "You two really annoy me."
    "But you love us."
    "Grrr…"
"What? I didn’t quite catch that."
"What did I say about articulation, son?"
    "I…like…you…"
    "A little louder."
    "I…like…you…"
    "That’s it? Oh, come on!"
    "I…love you."
    "Hum?"
"I love you! Okay! Are you happy now."
    "I guess I’m satisfied."
    "Thank you, son."
    "Oh Kami…"
    "Hum?"

*****

Piccolo raised his head from the meditative position and glanced at
Dende. "Hum?"
"I was just wondering if you were okay, Piccolo-san. You seemed
distracted."
Piccolo lifted his eyes from Dende to the sky. It was a beautiful azure
blue, not a cloud in the sky. *What a nice day.*
    ~Oh, shut up.~
Piccolo shifted his gaze back to the young god. "I’m fine. I was just
consulting…" He thought for a minute. "…my inner voices."
He lowered his head again and ignored the other Namek’s presence. Dende
looked at Piccolo curiously before walking away, staff clicking against stone.
